Jolyon Palmer topped the charts with new team DAMS on the opening day of GP2 testing in Abu Dhabi.
The Brit managed a 1m 49.126 towards the end of the session, and a red flag caused by rookie Axcil Jeffries ensured Palmer’s lead would not be relinquished.
The morning session was dominated by the EQ8 Caterham’s, as Alexander Rossi and Ryo Haryanto traded top spot until the contest was decided by Haryanto late on, who delivered a 1m 50.862s t lead into the lunch break.
After the break, New Williams reserve driver Felipe Nasr took his turn at the top of the chart for Carlin, and was the first driver to break the 1m 50s barrier.
With an hour left, Palmer set a 1m 49.143 and would not be bettered from there on in.
Testing resumes at 9am local time tomorrow.
