Joey Logano took pole in NASCAR Sprint Cup series qualifying at Las Vegas with Penske Racing completing a one-two for the second week in a row.
Logano’s 27.939s broke the previous track record – previously held by Kasey Kahne form 2012 – in the dying minutes of the session to dispatch team mate and 2012 Sprint Cup Champion Brad Keselowski from the top spot.
Logano summed up the Penske performance after qualifying.
“To have a Penske front row the last two weekends at two completely different race tracks just goes to show how hard these guys have been working.
“When you work hard the results come and obviously we haven’t won on Sunday yet and we have to figure out the big show.
Clint Bowyer, Austin Dillon and Jimmie Johnson rounded out the top five, and Johnson in particular looked strong as he looks to take his win total in Nevada to five.
Las Vegas-born brothers Kyle and Kurt Busch 20th and 23rd respectively, and series returner and two-time Las Vegas winner Jeff Burton managed 19th.
