Riccardo Patrese was born on this day in 1954, and went on to become a serious record breaker in Formula 1.
Patrese was the first driver to hit both 200 and 250 starts, with a career spanning seventeen years. Beginning in 1977, He drove for Shadow, Arrows, Brabham, Alfa Romeo, Williams and Benetton before retiring in 1993 with eight pole positions and six wins.
He is now the third longest serving driver in Formula 1 history, behind Michael Shumacher and Rubens Barichello. In total he started 256 races, with a best Championship finish of 2nd, in 1992 behind Nigel Mansell.
