The German Touring Car Championship will use ‘option’ Hankook tyres and a Formula 1 style DRS system for 2013.
The series hopes the move will spice up races by offering teams a greater depth of tactical choice when it comes to race day. The series banned refuelling before the 2012 season, which removed the ability to run less fuel at certain points of the race for tactical gain.
The DRS will be activated if a car is positioned within 2 seconds entering a defined straight, and will give a boost of up to seven kp/h., but can ony be used once a lap.
The ‘option’ tyres designed specifically for the DTM by supplier Hankook, giving a boost of around a second a lap, but with a significantly shorter lifespan. Each driver has one set of options for each race and must use them.
